Calculating Your Dogs Age

In human years, how old is your dog? It was believed that every 1 year of a dogs life was the equivalent of 7 years in a humans life... not anymore. The results may surprise you.

In the olden days, it was believed that every 1 year of a dogs life was the equivalent of 7 years in a humans life. Unfortunately, this meant that dogs could have babies at the human age of 7. So, the scale was redone. Current estimates say that the first year of the dog's life is worth 15 human years, the second year is worth 10 more, and every year after that is worth 5. The number of years change with the size of the dog. Larger dogs mature a little slower (12 human years for 1 dog year), and don't live as long. This handy chart can show you the ages at a glance.
